
The United States on Monday for the first time added Nigeria to a blacklist on religious freedom.
This development is paving the way for potential sanctions if Nigeria does not improve its record.
The Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who disclosed this on Monday, said the U.S. had listed Nigeria among the “Country of Particular Concern.”

Nigeria, a U.S. ally was designated a “Country of Particular Concern” for religious freedom, alongside nations that include China, Iran, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
