The governorship candidate of Alliance for Democracy (AD) in Oyo State, in the 2019 elections, Oyedele Hakeem Alao, has expressed displeasure over the recent killings, rape cases and fire disasters in Oyo State.

He, however, called on the state Governor Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State House of Assembly to take concrete action and bring criminals in the state to justice.

Alao, in a statement signed by his media spokesman, Omotayo Iyanda, said the call for action became expedient following the death of an Ibadan college undergraduate, Barakat Bello, who was killed after she was raped by her assailants.

He also said the recent gruesome murder of the Akinyele villagers at Pade, and that of a pregnant woman and the killing of a chieftain of All Progressives Congress (APC) in his residence in Ona-Ara Local Government, Babatunde Oreitan, should be looked into and their assailants brought to justice.

Alao also called for the fishing out of the killers of a trado-medical practitioner, Fatai Yusuf, popularly called Oko Oloyun, who was with his police escorts, while his assailants pursued him from Lagos and killed him along Iseyin Road, in Oke Ogun area of the state.

He said the killings have put a challenge on the investment the administration had made in the area of security, hence, he called on the state government to fish out the perpetrators of the dastard acts in the state.

“As we mark the 27th anniversary of the annulment of June 12, 1993, presidential election and in commemoration of Bashorun MKO Abiola’s diehard stance for entrenchment of good governance in Nigeria, “These killings, crimes and disasters must not be handled with kid gloves nor be swept under the carpet,” Alao said.

The AD governorship candidate also charged that measures should be put in place to curb fire disasters in the state, saying, there had been “several fire incidents, including those of Akesan and Ogunpa markets, the causes, which he said should be investigated.

To safeguard the state from further disaster, Alao said, “It is on this note that we are calling on the Oyo State Government under Engr Seyi Makinde and the Oyo State House of Assembly to speedily set actions in motion to investigate and bring to book those perpetrating the rape and murder cases in the state.
