Governor Godwin Obaseki is expected to emerge the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate for the September 19, 2020 governorship election in Edo State, as Kenneth Imasuagbon eventually stepped down at the last minute.
After others were earlier persevered to withdraw their interest, Imasuagbon, remained the only PDP governorship aspirant vying for the ticket of the party with Obaseki.
He announced his withdrawal from the race earlier before the Thursday governorship primary election began.

However, not minding Imasuagbon’s last minute withdraw, the election to choose the PDP governorship standard bearer will still go on for affirmation of Obaseki’s candidacy.
The voting holds at the Ogbemudia Stadium Benin City, the Edo State capital.
All things being equal, Obaseki is to formally emerge the party’s standard bearer now that all aspirants have stepped down for him before the commencement of governorship primary election.
As earlier announce, the party said a total of 2,229 delegates are expected to decide the standard bearer of the PDP for the Edo State governorship election in today’s primary election.
Mr Kola Ologbondiyan, the PDP National Publicity Secretary, making the disclosure in Abuja, on Wednesday, said, the party had followed due process in line with its time-tested procedures of electing eligible delegates, who had the responsibility of electing the most suitable candidate among the array of eligible aspirants seeking to fly the party’s flag in the governorship election.
