• Adeleke secures 511,067 votes to defeat APC’s Oyebamiji by 66,252 votes, wins 19 of 30 LGAs
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared the incumbent Governor of Osun State and candidate of the Accord Party, Ademola Adeleke, winner of the 2026 governorship election.
Adeleke was declared winner in the early hours of Sunday, August 16, after the completion of the collation of results from all 30 Local Government Areas of the state.
The Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joshua Olalekan Ogunwole, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye Ekiti, made the declaration at the INEC state collation centre in Osogbo.
Adeleke polled 511,067 votes to defeat his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, APC, who secured 444,815 votes.
The difference between the two leading candidates was 66,252 votes.
The declaration means Adeleke has secured another four year term as governor of Osun State.

The Accord candidate won in 19 of the state’s 30 LGAs, while Oyebamiji carried the remaining 11 LGAs.
Adeleke’s victories included Osogbo, the state capital, where he polled 36,480 votes against Oyebamiji’s 30,474.
He also recorded particularly wide margins in Ede North and Ede South.
In Ede North, Adeleke secured 35,427 votes, while Oyebamiji polled 10,283, giving the governor a margin of 25,144 votes.
In Ede South, Adeleke obtained 26,188 votes, compared with Oyebamiji’s 6,219, a margin of 19,969 votes.
Other notable victories for Adeleke came in Ife East, where he scored 27,201 votes against Oyebamiji’s 18,600, Iwo, where he recorded 27,085 against 19,660, Egbedore, where he polled 19,278 against 11,194, and Oriade, where he secured 21,343 against 14,863.
Oyebamiji takes 11 LGAs
Oyebamiji won 11 LGAs, maintaining strong support for the APC in several parts of the state.
His strongest showing came in Irewole, where he scored 29,972 votes, compared with Adeleke’s 10,934, giving him a margin of 19,038 votes.
The APC candidate also won Boripe, Atakunmosa East, Atakunmosa West, Ife South, Ilesa East, Irepodun, Isokan, Obokun, Ola Oluwa and Olorunda.
In Ilesa East, Oyebamiji polled 16,208 votes against Adeleke’s 12,280.
In Boripe, he secured 19,963 votes, while Adeleke recorded 12,448.
The contest was particularly close in Isokan, where Oyebamiji defeated Adeleke by 298 votes, polling 14,063 against 13,765.

The final figures announced by the Returning Officer showed Adeleke clearly ahead of the other candidates.

The figures announced at the collation centre put the total votes received by political parties at 985,079 valid votes, according to the figures reported from the declaration.
Adeleke wins with a clear statewide margin
Adeleke’s victory was built on both the size of his statewide vote and his wider geographical spread.
He won 19 LGAs, representing 63.3 per cent of Osun’s 30 councils, while Oyebamiji won 11 LGAs, representing 36.7 per cent.
The result therefore gives Adeleke a majority of the LGAs and a substantial statewide vote advantage.
The incumbent governor’s strongest margins came particularly from Ede North and Ede South, while Oyebamiji’s biggest advantage was recorded in Irewole.
The narrowest LGA victory for Adeleke came in Boluwaduro, where he polled 7,118 votes against Oyebamiji’s 7,050, a margin of just 68 votes.
For Oyebamiji, the closest victory came in Isokan, where he led Adeleke by 298 votes.
First election victory for Accord in Osun
The election also marks a significant political development for the Accord Party in Osun.
Adeleke contested the 2022 governorship election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeating the then incumbent governor, Gboyega Oyetola of the APC, with 403,371 votes to Oyetola’s 375,027 votes.
He subsequently moved to the Accord Party and contested the 2026 election under its platform.
His victory therefore gives Accord its first governorship victory in Osun since the party was founded, according to Dataphyte.
Ogunwole declares Adeleke elected
After the results from the 30 LGAs had been collated and the party agents had signed the results, the Returning Officer formally declared Adeleke the winner.
Ogunwole said Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and declared him elected governor of Osun State.
The declaration brought to an end the closely watched election conducted on Saturday, August 15, 2026.
The final result places Adeleke at the head of the state for another four years, after defeating Oyebamiji by 66,252 votes and winning 19 of Osun’s 30 LGAs.
