Makinde, Sanwo-Olu, Abiodun take second term Oath of Office in Oyo, Lagos, Ogun

The governors of Oyo, Lagos and Ogun states have taken their Oath of Office for another four years of second term.

In Oyo State, the Oath of Office was administered to Governor Seyi Makinde by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Iyabo Yerima, at 10:50 a.m. on Monday, May 29, 2023.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Barrister Abdulraheem Adebayo Lawal, also took the Oath of Office for another four years of a second term.

In Lagos State, the Oath of Office was administered to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, by the Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Kazeem Alogba at 11:38 a.m.

Earlier, Dr Obafemi Hamzat had taken the Oath of Office as Deputy Governor of Lagos State for his second term in office.

Recalled Sanwo-Olu was declared the winner of the 2023 governorship election after polling 762,134 votes, while his closest rival, the Labour Party candidate, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, polled 312,329 votes, while the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Olajide Adediran, polled 62,449 votes.

In Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun also took the Oath of Office for another term of four years.

In his address to the people of Ogun State, Abiodun said he would consolidate on the achievements recorded in the last four years, as he promised that, “We will not betray this trust reposed on us.”

He said, “The Ogun State of our dreams is not only for one class of persons. It is not for the perfect. It is an inclusive State that gives opportunities to the law-abiding, and second chances to deserving offenders.”
