Nigeria: Buhari joined by Osinbajo decorates new Service Chiefs

President Muhammadu Buhari, supported by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, has decorated the new Service Chiefs at an event held in the Council Chamber at the State House, on Friday.

The new Service Chiefs decorated are, Major General Lucky Irabor, Chief of Defence Staff, who became a full General; Major General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Army Staff decorated with the rank of Lieutenant-General.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Zubairu Gambo was decorated as Vice Admiral; while the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Ishiaka Oladayo Amao was decorated with the rank of Air Marshal.

During the ceremony, President Buhari told the new Service Chiefs accompanied to the State House by their wives and other senior officers of the Nigerian Armed Forces, that they only had a few weeks to secure the country.

President Buhari said he expects that before the rainy season, they would have secured the country to the level that farmers who had fled their farms in different parts of Nigeria would have developed enough confidence to return to their farms.

Also, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Lucky Irabor told State House correspondents after the ceremony that Nigerians cannot continue to live in fear. He gave the assurance that the era of Nigerians living in fear will now be a thing of the past.

Recalled that the decoration of the new Service Chiefs came after the National Assembly confirmed their appointment, after which the Senate President Ahmad Lawan advised them to take the insurgency war to the terrorists and bandits and dislodge them from their enclaves.

He reminded them to be conscious of the fact that Nigerians expect a lot from them to address the security problems confronting the country.
