The Presidency has dismissed reports claiming the Federal Government has perfected plans to remove subsidy for fuel to now sell at N302 per liter.

This is contrary to earlier reports published in a section of the online media Wednesday morning, purporting plans by the FG through the recommendation of the National Economic Council (NEC) headed by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, to increase the fuel price starting from February of this year.

The headline had read, “Osinbajo-led Economic Council Recommends Fuel Increase To N302 Per Litre By February.

But in a latest tweet on Wednesday by the spokesman of the Vice President, Mr Laolu Akande on Twitter, has dismissed the said plan by the FG to embark on such venture.

Although he admitted that deliberations are in progress by stakeholders regarding the topic of fuel subsidy removal but no solid conclusion has been made on the subject matter.

He, thereby, advised that information on such matters of national importance are properly investigated before being made public for consumption.

His tweet reads, “While there are indeed ongoing discussions on the issue of fuel subsidy, at no time has NEC made any such resolution as this report claims. Public discourse can be better served by seeking further clarification from relevant quarters on matters of such importance.”
