Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, has presided over the country’s first Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, in 2023.

The top Cabinet meeting held at the Presidential Villa Council Chambers in Statehouse, Abuja, began some minutes after 10:00 a.m.

Vice President Osinbajo is acting for his boss, President Muhammadu Buhari, who has travelled with a few of his aides and other Cabinet members to Nouakchott, Mauritania, for the Third Forum of the African Conference for Peace.

Those on the Presidential team, who together with him missed today’s meeting are the Ministers of Defence, Maj. Gen. Bashir Magashi; Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama; and the National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Monguno.

In attendance at the meeting include the Secretary to Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha; the Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Dr Folashade Yemi-Esan; and the Deputy Chief of Staff to the President, Dr Adeola Ipaye.

The Cabinet Ministers who attended physically include those from the Ministries of Health, Osagie Ehanire; Mines and Steel Development, Olamilekan Adegbite; Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola; Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige; Justice, Abubakar Malami, Transportation, Mu’azu Sambo; Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Farouk; Industry, Trade and Investment, Niyi Adebayo; Agriculture, Mohammad Abubakar; and Aviation, Hadi Sirika; and Environment, Mohammed Abdullahi.

Others include Minister from the Ministries of Petroleum, Timipre Sylva; Police Affairs, Mohammed Dingyadi; Power, Abubakar Aliyu; Interior, Rauf Aregbesola; Niger Delta, Umana Umana; Special Duties, George Akume; Science and Technology, Henry Ikoh; Youth and Sports, Sunday Dare; Industry, Trade and Investment, Mariam Katagum; Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo; and Foreign Affairs, Zubairu Dada.

The President and his entourage are expected back in Abuja today, Wednesday.
