Osun ex-Dep Gov, Senator Omisore, to chair 2nd Tunde Ponnle Annual Lecture

Former deputy governor of Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, is to be the chairman of this year’s 2nd Prince Tunde Ponnle Annual Lecture.

The 2nd Tunde Ponnle Annual Lecture is being organised by the Osun State University (UNIOSUN) Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute (GASDI).

In a letter dated 27th November, 2020, from the Office of the Vice-Chancellor, Osun State University (UNIOSUN), and signed by the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labode Popoola, a professor of Forest Economics and Sustainable Development, he wrote: “It gives me great pleasure to invite you to serve as the Chairman at the 2nd Tunde Ponnle Annual Lecture under the auspices of UNIOSUN Global Affairs and Sustainable Development Institute (GASDI).

“Last year, the university instituted an Annual Lecture in honour of Prince (Engineer) Tunde Ponnle, a member of Governing Council of Osun State University and a philanthropist per excellence. Prince Tunde Ponnle is the founder of the famous MicCom Wire and Cable Ltd, and the equally famous MicCom Golf Course. He has massively supported university education in Nigeria, and in particular, our university. Prince Ponnle attained the age of 80 on 24th December 2019 and the university has resolved to honour him with the annual lecture series.

“Against the backdrop of the foraging, I wish to formally request you to be the Chairman of the lecture scheduled to take place on Tuesday, 22 December, 2020 at the Olagunsoye Oyinlola Auditorium, Main Campus, Osogbo by 10:00 a.m.

“The lecture is to be delivered by Professor Lukman Oyedele with the theme: Internationalisation of Higher Education in Nigeria: A call for Change in Attitude and Strategies. Professor Oyedele is Assistant Vice-Chancellor, the University of the West of England, UK.

Omisore, a former Senator representing the people of Osun East at the Senate from 2003 to 2009, was also a former Social Democratic Party (SDP) candidate in the last governorship election in Osun State.

The Ile-Ife-born politician, Omisore, also a qualified engineer, the Nigeria Society of Engineer (NSE), through its president, Babagana Mohammed, recently said had risen to become a legend in Nigerian politics because of his hard work and determination, while during his recent 63rd birthday.

Apart from being a political achiever, Omisore is equally a successful businessman, with two engineering degrees and a postgraduate certificate from Brunel University London, Uxbridge, United Kingdom, and a PhD in Infrastructure Finance from the International School of Management, Paris, France.
