President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, succeeding Professor Ishaq Oloyede in a major leadership transition at the nation’s tertiary admissions agency.

In a statement signed by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, on Thursday, the Presidency said the appointment forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen key institutions within Nigeria’s education sector.

Prof Aina is expected to take over from Oloyede, whose tenure at JAMB witnessed far reaching reforms that reshaped the operations of the examination body.

Under Oloyede’s leadership, JAMB strengthened its computer based testing system, intensified measures against examination malpractice, expanded transparency in admission processes, and significantly increased remittances to the Federal Government.

The Presidency expressed confidence that the incoming registrar would build on those reforms while advancing fresh innovations aimed at improving efficiency, digital administration, and credibility within the country’s tertiary admissions system.

A Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife, Prof Aina is known for his expertise in digital systems, intelligent computing, and technology driven institutional development.

His academic and professional engagements have largely focused on applying engineering and digital solutions to governance and education related challenges.

He has also worked in advisory and collaborative capacities with examination and regulatory institutions, particularly in areas relating to assessment systems, digital transformation, and institutional process improvement.

His appointment is being viewed in policy and education circles as a continuation of JAMB’s reform trajectory, with expectations that the agency would further deepen technology based service delivery and strengthen public confidence in Nigeria’s admission process.
