Newly confirmed Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN), has pledged to restore public confidence in Nigeria’s electoral process through technology-driven reforms and greater transparency.
His assurance followed the Senate’s confirmation of his appointment after a voice vote that recorded no opposition.
Amupitan, who succeeds Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, said the Commission under his leadership would prioritise efficiency, logistics planning, voter education, and digital innovation to ensure cleaner and more credible elections.

During his screening, lawmakers had questioned him on electoral transparency, institutional independence, and the use of technology in elections.
The law professor maintained that his professional record was guided by ethics and non-partisanship, dismissing claims that he represented the APC during the 2023 presidential election tribunal.
He emphasised that INEC must not only conduct elections but also guarantee confidence in the process, promising to make credibility and accountability the foundation of his reforms.
