At least, 16 people were seriously injured, market, houses and vehicles burnt, when a gas tanker exploded at Iju Ishaga, Lagos State, on Thursday.
The sad incident at the Lagos and Ogun State border areas threw residents into confusion and disorderliness, as the explosion caused raging fire in their communities.
The incident which occurred 3:30 p m., was said have been caused by a gas leakages from tanker which caused it to explode as it was about to enter a newly built plant located in a residential area.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), in its situation report said, “the Agency responded to distress calls and it was confirmed that a 30 ton LPG Tanker being operated by Mana Gas Ltd was involved in an explosion which destroyed several vehicles, X and Y Event Center and a Plank Market in the above mentioned axis.

“The responders discovered that a compromised seal device by the truck driver had led to gradual leakages which then ignited when the tyres burst.
Sixteen people were found to have serious injuries and were taken to various hospitals, including Iju Water Works Clinic. Two people are in critical condition and are being referred to General Hospital Ikeja. The other 14 have been given adequate first aid.”
LASEMA said the fire has been extinguished and damping down is being carried out.
Other emergency responders who joined LASEMA at the scene of incidence include, Lagos Fire Service, Nigeria Police officers and members of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
