Gunshots in Aso Rock: Presidency probes fight between Aisha, Buhari’s aides


The Presidency came out on Sunday, to speak on the scuffle said to have occurred between First Lady Aisha Buhari and some presidential aides in Aso Rock.

First Lady Aisha Buhari had earlier via her Twitter account raised concerns over the arrest of her security aides by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, over a development in the Presidential Villa on Friday.

She, however begged for their release.

Reports had said that some of the security aides of the First Lady were accused of firing shots in the confrontation involving their principal and some presidential aides.

As gathered, aides and close associates of the President had fired back after aides of the First Lady was said to have dealt with a personal assistant of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Information had it that, the scuffle began when the First Lady resisted the residency of one Saibu ‘Tunde’ Yusuf, a personal assistant to the President in Aso Rock, after his arrival from Lagos, without self-isolating to ascertain his COVID-19 status.

It was said the insistence of Yusuf to stay inside the Presidential Villa without self-isolating, made Aisha Buhari’s Aide De Camp (ADC) and other security details of the First Lady forced Yusuf out of Aso Villa on Thursday, June 11.

In the process of forcing Yusuf out of Aso Rock, was when it was said the issue of gunshots occurred, while he, Yusuf, was said to have been beaten by the First Lady’s aides.

The fallout of the melee, it was said made the Presidential security details led by the Chief Security Officer, to swing into action over what was called a security breach, and ordered the arrest of Aisha Buhari’s ADC and other security details, who had since been in police detention.

Yusuf, who was said to have been ordered out of Aso Rock and was denied access to his apartment was said to have escaped into the apartment of Buhari’s nephew, Mamman Daura.

Daura and the late Abba Kyari, had earlier been said to be arrowheads of the Aso Rock cabal, whom Aisha Buhari had, during the first term of President Buhari, accused of taking over her husband’s government.

The Daily Leaks had exclusively reported on how Aisha Buhari influenced her husband, President Buhari, to flush the so called cabal members out of Aso Rock immediately after the demise of Kyari.

Angered by the development, coupled with the latest scuffle between Yusuf and Aisha Buhari, it was gathered that the Aso Rock cabal, who had been silent had found an opportunity to get back at the wife of the president.

But addressing the issue on Sunday, presidential spokesperson, Garba Shehu, said in a statement: “The Presidency wishes to acknowledge concerns expressed by several members of the public regarding the recent incident among the occupants of the State House which escalation led to the arrest of some staff by the police.

“This is to assure all and everyone that the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Muhammadu Buhari, is not, and was not at any time in any form of danger arising, either from deadly infections or the reported incident by security personnel which is currently under investigation.”

“This particular incident happened outside the main residence of the President.

“Armed guards and other security personnel assigned to the State House receive the necessary training of especially weapons handling and where they come short, their relevant agencies have their rules and regulations to immediately address them.

“Having authorized the proper investigation to be carried out into this unfortunate incident by the Police, the President has acted in compliance with the rule of law.

“That a minor occurrence is being used by some critics to justify attacks on the government and the person of President Muhammadu Buhari beggars belief.

“In this particular instance, the President says the law should be allowed to take its course.”
