Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has commended Alex Otti for what he described as purposeful, people-centred leadership and tangible progress in Abia State as he visited the governor in Umuahia on his 61st birthday.

Osinbajo met Otti at the Government House on Wednesday where he expressed admiration for the governor’s record of performance, saying the administration has translated its mandate into visible evidence of development and improved welfare for residents.

“I am extremely proud of the work you have done so far,” Osinbajo said during the visit which coincided with the birthday event. “You have lived up to expectations not only for the people but also for your friends and associates. In the short time I have been here, I have seen tangible evidence of progress.”

The former vice president highlighted significant reforms under Otti’s tenure, particularly in social welfare, including the recently assented Senior Citizens’ Law, which Osinbajo described as compassionate and rooted in social responsibility.

Osinbajo also praised the governor’s infrastructure renewal efforts, especially extensive road works and enhanced connectivity across the state, describing them as visible signs of results-driven governance.

“Sometimes you wonder whether, after all the efforts to get into office, leaders are able to fulfil their promises,” he said. “But in your case, you have done not just what you promised, but even more. You have made public service worthwhile.”

The visit included prayers for renewed strength, wisdom and divine favour for the governor as he continues his administration’s work.

In response, Otti described Osinbajo as a brother, friend and mentor, noting that the gathering was not a planned birthday celebration but a modest marking of the day in service to the people.

Otti reiterated that governance must remain centred on the welfare, safety and peace of mind of citizens, recalling early decisive actions taken to restore order in communities previously affected by insecurity.

Representatives of leading financial institutions including Access Bank, First Bank and UBA were among well-wishers who described Otti’s administration as a model of ethical and effective leadership.

Osinbajo’s visit and remarks reaffirm support for Otti’s approach to public service as focused on measurable outcomes, social impact and inclusive governance.
